Feathers are flying in this realistic rendering of the aftermath of a mid-air strike by a Peregrine Falcon. Allan Brooks, well known ornithological painter, creates a drama in the air in this graphic piece of art. This original painting, watercolour with gouache, has rarely been displayed and made available for public viewing. It has been in a private family collection for many years. And now it is being offered for sale. Allan Brooks was born in India in 1869, and died in Comox, BC in 1946. A talented artist from a young age, he was encouraged by his father, himself an amateur ornithologist. Brooks moved to Canada and grew up on a farm near Chilliwack, BC, becoming an avid bird-watcher. He was a decorated war hero in WW1, where he served as a sniper. Brooks is a well-known bird artist in BC and all across North America. There is a museum and Nature Centre dedicated to him in Vernon, BC. There are many prints of his famous works, done for National Geographic, among others, available on-line.
